Custom BMX
Have you ever seen someone with a Custom BMX? They can be found anywhere and everywhere from skate parks to dirt jumps to street locations. So the question you have to ask is why do they make their own Custom BMX’s and how do they do it.
There is a large number of reasons that someone might have for making a Custom BMX. This includes things such as the visual apparence of it, the weight, the strength, and the feel of the bike. Getting custom parts for your bike is the number one way to change its visual appearance. This includes things such as different coloured grips, tires and even frames. By changing the colours of a bike, the riders are able to stand out and express themselves.
Making a Custom BMX can also effect the weight of your bike signifigantly. This is because when you buy a BMX they are generally a stock model. This means the companies have created a bike out of their own parts and put them into a complete form. Although complete bikes are often cheaper then creating one yourself, you need to remember they are cheaper because some of the parts they use will be either weak or heavy. By making your own bike you can choose the strength of your parts, their weight, and even their appearence. So unless your buying a complete bike for over one thousand dollars, chances are it will not be completly made of the best parts.
As mentioned above the strength of your bike can be increased by making your own custom bmx. This is because you get to choose which parts you want knowing their specific details and dimensions. If you buy a complete bike / a pre made, the bike company producing them will want to use the maximum amount of parts from their range as possible. Basically, this means that although bike company A might have a stronger set of forks, bike company B will still use their own parts on their bike. By making your own custom bmx you can choose the strongest parts from all the different companies and end up with the strongest bike around.
Creating your own custom bmx can also allow you to choose how it feels. Every bmx part has a different feel to it. This becomes common knowledge the more you ride and through having the ability to choose your own parts, you can make your own bike feel exactly how you want it too. This might include aspects such as big bars for more control, a lower frame to make it easier to manual, long crank shafts or even a longer / shorter top tube depending on how tall you are.
I personally have a custom bmx bike. Mine was originally a We The People Envy. After doing some research and talking to a few friends at my local skate park I realized the benefits of having custom parts added to your bike. After my first big crash attempting my first back flip out of a box jump I bent my forks. This was the beginning of the creation of my custom bmx. I purchased some Colony Official forks and from there I ended up buying new handle bars, an entire new back wheel set up, new tires, grips, brakes and even a new seat. In the end my bike was approximately two kilograms lighter and a heck of a lot stronger. Better yet it meant that I was able to buy parts for my bike in the colors that I wanted.
Not only was my new bike lighter, stronger, and better looking, it also improved my riding a lot. The differences may seem little however once my entire bike had basically been customized, the differences were astounding. Airing out of quarter pipes suddenly became easier, jumping boxes required less effort and basically everything about my riding became that little bit smoother, higher, and more impressive.
It can be concluded that basically creating your own custom bmx or buying someone elses allows you to customise your riding to the standard you feel comfortable with. It will help you avoid breaking a premade, complete bike doing a normal trick, and help you to stand out amongst the vast number of riders. In summary, your own custom bmx will help you to ride smoother, faster, look better and feel better all in one.
